New Desktop
« on: February 23, 2017, 07:16:09 PM »
Case:    Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow edition
CPU:      i5 7600k Kaby Lake
Mobo:    ASRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming K6
Ram:     Corsair Vengenance LPX 16GB (2x8GB Sticks)
PSU:      Corsair RM650X 80 Plus Gold Full Mod
SSD:     Crucial 525GB M2
HDD:     Seagate Barracuda 1TB
Video:    Asus GTX 1060 ROG Strix 6GB

That's the meat of it, some other non important peripherals aswell. I am trying to keep it at or around 1500 for the total build.

If I swap out the 1060 for a 1070 it puts me at $1547 which is okay, but should I go for the bigger video card up front and keep the i5, or up it to the i7 and get a 1060 card? Thoughts?

looks good so far. but it depends on what you play for the vid card and cpu.

If you are going to play arma a lot then cpu would be better to update.    The i5 should handle it just fine but i7 would be better.  so if money is tight maybe go with a 1070 and i5 for now or wait for a sale and get both the i7 and 1070.  that would be the best combo.

I decided to go with both the i7 and the 1070, brings me to 1690 with shipping, nd future proofs me a little more. thanks for your input

one thing I did notice is that you can get a fully mod power supply from evga cheaper.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2F84BC9891&cm_re=evga_650w-_-17-438-026-_-Product

just an idea if you want to save a couple bucks.

also, your ram is 2400mhz.  your board can handle up to 3866mhz. so a happy medium would be 3200 or 3600 MHz ram.

a good 3200mhz set is this:   https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIACVB57X3019

Maybe save a little on the power supply and put it towards faster ram.

What you have is good. but this is just an idea if you want faster ram and a cheaper ps.

Might have sent you the old ram, I did up it to 3000mhz ran, and I'll look into that power supply. I'm ordering Monday so I still have time to make adjustments
