After seeing the new ARMA3 Epoch video showing the new base building, I'm definetely interested to see how that evolves. Looks much better than the current Epoch system. We'll see how it turns out in the future I guess. Looks promising for sure :)

Hi Guys,

Not sure my name may be familiar to anyone, anymore, but I was on DM Cherno everyday for months on end, had a nice base, great gear etc. Right around Feb, I took a break. I had a ton of gear, and the grind just felt like too much, I just reinstalled yesterday, and went to join in on the NAPF server for DM, but there were only 3 people on, I monitored and checked stats and 3-10 seems like a common amount, and its just not enough on a map that size.

I loved DeadMeat Epoch Cherno, and that's what I'm looking for again, so you need the population. I'm not sure how you built it up last time, but maybe go back to basics. I'll be watching!

If you check on the weekend there's been 15-20 players on at times. Alot of the regulars come on to the DM server later on Fri/Sat night. There is talk about perhaps going to an ARMA 3: Wasteland server if the DayZ server doesn't work out. I'm not sure though, that is an admin call, its just what I've heard. But stay tuned :)

Loose and I were playing last night and flying around the map. One thing we said is that NAPF is so big and really the only action takes place up north. Whats the point of having a huge map where everyone only wants to go north to the big cities. I know it would take work to make it happen but what about having some bigger cities/military bases in the central and southern parts of the map? And I mean not just traders. If you had some other places for people to go and loot or fight, it would help I think on this map to get people out to other areas they might not normally go. I know its alot more involved then just adjusting the trader prices but just putting it out there. I know I've played on afew DayZ servers that had big survivor NPC camps in the middle and northern parts of Cherno, no reason that couldn't be put on NAPF correct?

Ya I did hear some of the conversation with Pip and Botox about ARMA3 Wasteland, so maybe that's an option too in the near future. I just have to buy it, which I can do this weekend and give Wasteland a try.  I'm down for whatever everyone else agrees to. I'll be on this Fri and Sat nite so if we want to talk for awhile if everyone else is on, lets do it. I haven't been on much during the week due to work being crazy this time of year so I don't know what the server pop has been like.

The population would be larger if everyone would play on Dead Meat instead of other dayz servers.  I have seen more than 12 players in TS3 at times and only 3 to 5 are on Dead Meat.  The population would increase if we all played on DM.  When the server hits over 10 players we automatically gain more players outside of DM because others see the server as somewhat populated.

Other games have come out at this point and some of the dayz players have moved on to other games.  The decrease in population is also due to people playing other games.

So, to sum it up:  If you want more players on DM then play on the DM server and get it started.  Secondly, tell your friends to come join us.  If 10 people invite 1 friend each that would be 10 new players.  The server would be at 20 players and others would start to join.  That's just the nature of populating a server.

People won't join if they only see 3 to 5 players most of the time.

I have seen half of our population playing on the ATD server.  I am not saying that you can't but if you want DM to populate then play on DM.  I have tested other servers myself but always  come back to play DM as my primary server.

my two cents.

Like we said last night in TS, pretty much all the regulars have been trying to play on the DM server as much as possible lately. The server population has gone up and then back down again, it doesn't seem to stay constant. Having all the admins in once channel for an hour or so to figure out what needs to be added and taken away from the server is our best bet, like we said. Just going to see what the top servers have is a good starting point, kinda like what we've been doing lately with ATD etc. And most of the issues can be fixed fairly easily I would think. I know Arm is having RL issues to deal with so once he gets back on, then we can figure this out better. More admins, more coders to help etc can be talked about. Just the fact that the DM server runs so much better than pretty much any server I've been on speaks volumes to getting people to stay. Even those top servers are laggy and buggy but yet have a line waiting to get in. No reason we can't do the same thing here.

I agree with Loose here, I think Cherno is the way to go after talking it over  8). Its smaller and you do have a greater chance of getting some action there as opposed to NAPF where you could go an hour running/biking around and not running into anyone. If its possible to go back to Cherno without any major issues, I think that would help repopulate the server. Just looking on DayZ Commander, all the Top20 Epoch servers are running Cherno, with some other options give or take.  Having 10 people on the server and 8 are in the same channel on TS, that's no fun. Its worth a try, what do we have to lose at this point? 

Afew other members and myself came back from another server because we like DM. It just runs the best, hands down, but just running around collecting food and weapons by yourself isn't how I want to spend my evening. We gotta try other things to get people to come back. This is the best option IMO.

I wouldn't mind a darker night time so you have to rely on the flashlight and/or NV guns. Maybe make NVG's available only at AI missions and they're on the AI, not just in the crates. Is it possible to have different amounts of light for teh night cycles? Maybe one time is clear and brighter or cloudy and much darker. Just thinking out loud....

The AI guard will come in a future update, Im focusing on the new build system integration into epoch smoothly first, then will look at various AI packages, and determine if it will run on the client or the server via headless client.

As for the log off near an enemy plot pole, that is something much faster to do, but before I start, I need to know exactly what the community wants. PM this thread to our active players in TS3, and encourage players in side chat to come discuss this!

I also think that the Rad zones are played out now. I think if they want to be randomly spawned in sometimes to changes things up but having them all the time I could do without. Would rather have more AI missions, or roving AI bands like Eightball said. That would make for some interesting encounters out in the wilderness. Again, as long as it doesn't slow the server down or anything that is. I'm also for more, beefed up, Zeds or having like a "patient zero" from Origins. Something that makes it worth killing them instead of just running away and avoiding them all together.

Along those lines as well, what about the "sentry" base option that was being discussed? If you have an AI roaming your plot hole area, they can also deal with intruders that are deemed enemies by not being friends with the plot hole owner.

Its good to see that this thread has yielded alot of discussion about the server  :D Like I said before, having played on some other servers that were packed full recently, I took note of the options those servers had and put them here. It seems like the building in current structures seems to not be too popular here because of the destruction factor, like Arm said. I wouldn't want to see traders, industrials, airfields etc being blocked off by bases, I was more referring to building in or around small towns with low loot spawns. I personally wouldn't want to place my entire base inside an existing house/barn as it can be destroyed but it wouldn't be bad to have a hesco around a barn with a blueprint house or something there as your main structure then you just use the barn for temporary shelter if needed. As for the other options I listed, I can take or leave them really in the end. I've talked to other members that haven't posted here and they agree with most of what I posted in this thread but in the end, if we're in the minority then I'm cool with that. I'm sure there are many more options out there that could fill the server again that I just didn't think of. Again, glad this spurred a good discussion on the topic.

After Stallionfire, myself and afew others were talking in TS last night about how to get people to come back to the server full time, I decided to make a post and list out some suggestions/observations that I've taken from other Epoch servers. Since I really don't know much about how servers work I'm not sure how some of these suggestions will work out or not but I'm going to list them anyway. So here we go....

1. BUILDING IN/AROUND EXISTING BUILDINGS - This is a big thing on the server myself and afew others have been playing on for the last few weeks. They allow you to build in any of the existing houses/buildings on the map besides any firestations, school houses and military bases. But industrial buildings and low/medium loot areas are far game. For me this can be a slippery slope. If everyone takes over all the industrial areas on the map, then it makes it hard to get buildables unless you make new missions that are high value buildables like cinder walls, metal floors etc. But on the other hand it makes it easier for bambis to come on the server and get a base going pretty fast. We were trying to take over a small town by just walling it off but that turned out to be tough with all the zombies spawning in but at least you give the players the option to do so.

2. DIFFERENT WEAPONS AND CLOTHES - This is something I've wanted to ask for for awhile now. I think we need to have more guns added, both high value and low, for some different variety. I know the AS50 is way too OP but some of the other machine guns, assault rifles available should be an easy thing to add in. Even if some have to be nerfed or maybe only available at very high value loot missions (IE the KSVK, LAPUA etc). I'm not sure what other weapons packages are available for ARMA 2 to add in but its worth looking at I think. Also, different clothing options would be good too. Like the regular Bandit Camo instead of the survivor clothes with the head wrap. I like that much better. I'm not sure if this would have to be ARMA 2 specific clothes or if custom clothes can also be uploaded and used. I know that may affect the server if everyone has to DL that file before they play. I really like the way that SA does it with having more civy style clothes then military and being about to mix and match. What about added different masks or helmets etc too? Anything to make the character more custom to the player.

3. LESS MILITARY VEHICLES - Most of the servers I've played have had little to no armed military vehicles. I think if there is a mission that has a tank or an APC with guns on it that is ONLY available there, that is fine. Then if someone gets it they can mess around with it during that restart, then it disappears. But when there are tanks all over or Cesnas with rockets, thats too much. That makes it more like just regular ARMA 2 for me, not a survival game that is supposed to be about killing zombies and living through the apocalypse. All the normal vehicles and planes are fine for me. If there are more that can be added in, I'm all for that as long as they aren't too OP.

4. MORE MISSIONS PER RESTART - The missions are allows a fun thing I think and if there is a way to add more in during each restart without affecting the server too much, that would be nice. Ive seen up to 4 different missions going on in a 50+ person server and they were crazy. Some were "IKEA truck crashes with building supplies", or " Bandits have taken over (insert town name), clear the town and get the gold" and "NATO vehicles crashed protecting a VIP, kill him before he escapes" to name afew. I think there should be AI at the gold missions to make it more challenging. But it seems to bring people out into the map more by having all those missions going on at once, even if they all don't have AI. Another one I saw on a regular DayZ server was "Most Wanted" where someone was picked randomly, either they had the most kills on the server at that time or killed the most players during a restart, then a message would come up with where they were located and if you killed them you got X amount of gold. I though that was interesting especially with certain people on DM  ;)

5. MORE KILL MESSAGES/STATS - This is more secondary for me and doesn't make or break a server but I like the live stats that tell who killed who and with what etc. Then having an option to get live stats while playing (IE type in !stats AlmightyWez, or something like that, and it shows your lifetime stats).

That pretty much covers the big topics for me, that I can think of right now anyway. I'm sure there are others people can add to this thread if they want to and we'll see who wants what. Since I started playing Epoch I've played here and hope it can get back to the 50 players, with a line waiting to get in, that it was a year ago or so.
