Comcast Speed Upgrade
« on: May 13, 2014, 03:05:43 AM »
Comcast has Upgraded the download speed for Blast Subscribers over the last few months.

If you are a Blast Subscriber check to make sure you are getting the speed that you pay for.

If your paying for the level down from blast you are getting 25Mbps download speeds.  For $10.00 more you can get Blast at 105Mbps download.

4 times the speed for $10.00 extra.   Also, make sure you have a Docsis 3.0 modem to achieve these speeds.

Here is a decent one on Newegg.com :

this is my latest result on Speed Test.

Here is my speed test:

This is the router I picked up last year - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122326

And the modem is from Comcast with voice - http://www.arrisi.com/products/product.asp?id=1071

From what I can tell is the Blast is supposed to be 50Mbps, can you tell me the source of this 4x?

Lol...  Pip.

Here is one link to the announcement.  If you don't have it now you will eventually.  It just moved into my area.  They started back in March 2014 (I think).

http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Basic-Internet-Connectivity-And/Speed-increase-from-50-to-105-Mbps-on-Tripple-Play-HD-Premier-XF/td-p/2008581

Here is another link to some info.

And here is one right from the horses mouth.

Check to see when it will be available in your area.  Different dates for different areas.

This is the Modem I have but for an entirely different reason.

I refuse to pay Time Warner $6.00 a month for the privilege  (blackmail, ransom, rent, and/or contribution to TW management retirement plan) of using their 80% effective $35.00 modem.

In fewer words "Screw Time Warner"

As a side note.  My TW monthly bill went from over $160 a month to $34.99.

Swapping modems was only one thing there were others.........

Dumb question:  If I had the Motorola modem from say Texas TW and I'm now on Comcast in WA, would that modem still work?

TW Made a mistake when I moved and they checked in all my equipment including the modem (So sayeth the receipt!).  If I used it here now in Comcast, could or would TW be able to kill it or would they be alerted that its no longer in their system and claim ownership?  Or is it like a NIC, you can change the MAC and move on...?

Also, would like to know if there are any "Hacks" you can do to this modem like DD-WRT for my routers?

Not sure, but the modem would have to be open source to change the MAC.  (I Think) I never tried this.

I would think that if you set it up with Comcast they would be able to tell you if its locked to a specific provider.

you can also see more info. on the modem by going to 192.168.100.1  This is the internal webpage of the modem.  It might tell you specifics in the settings.
